Visit Squamish BC and step into an adventure.

It started at ground level with a text from an old classmate. I was in Squamish visiting  friends and sharing stoke and whimsy. I’d spent a day helping one find some new storage lockers for old boxes that also required a trip to Abbotsford, various loading and unloadings, a missing gas tank key, and the kindness of strangers. Another climbing friend had taken me traipsing around the gorgeous Squamish Estuary.  Then my Victoria college classmate, who happened to be passing through town with his wife in their new-to-them 4×4, sent me a message. He wanted to go explore some surrounding logging roads.

I said yes, and we took that jeep and headed for the sky.

Hey... I think I can see my friend's house from up here..

The Stawamus Chief: One of Canada's Greatest Climbing Destinations

We drove for quite awhile up and up and around dirt corners. We could smell the engine working hard as the GPS did its best to track our course. The air grew colder as we gained elevation, and were considering turning back when we encountered two men on dirt bikes. They told us we were nearing the top and a great view down the fjord. So we continued, until it opened up, we stepped out of the vehicle, turned, and saw the world open up before us.

I'm used to seeing those distant peaks from the other side

The Stawamus Chief in Squamish, BC

When I get back there for my next visit I intend to hike to the top of the Chief for another view and more excellent friend-time.
