How Walking Your Dog is like Travelling Through Time
Macaulay Point Park, Esquimalt, British Columbia

Where we walk, others have walked before. Our world is undergirded and surrounded by layers of wonders untapped, and often unseen. I like to encourage our perspectives to change that.

Here’s an example of things seen and encountered by me, during the seemingly mundane happenings of dog-walking and visiting with friends.

These are my friends’ two dogs: Miss Amanda Rose (Mandy) & The Dirty White Boy (Derbi). (Names corrected) Derbi is younger and will grow larger still. Mandy is a bit older (though not by much) and wiser. It’s pretty cool watching them grow, learn, run around, and interact with the world.

At this dog park there were a whole range of different breeds coming and going. I wonder at times, why certain traits were chosen, and what work certain breeds were raised for.
That’s a layer of thought and wonder.

What is the history beneath your feet?

What is the history beneath your feet?

These are my friends. One of the main reasons they chose this park over many of the other parks in the area is that it has an ‘off-leash’ section where dogs are free to run about. I wonder if they know that Macauly Point Park was first used by European settlers in the area as a farm for the Hudson’s Bay Company before later becoming Fort Macaulay?

Fort Macaulay eventually ended up with several gun batteries, and overlooks the mouth of Victoria Harbour, which is where Fort Victoria was built and became the Provincial Capital of British Columbia.

Good job protecting things everyone involved. It looks like it worked.

History would be another one of those undergirding layers of interestingness!
So that’s a look at what happened during a bunch of minutes walking with my friends, and their dogs, around a local park.
What sorts of wonders surround your next ramble and walkabout?

This weekend I leave for Vancouver, and the friends and adventures that shall happen there. If you’d like to join in on any collaborative roadtrips, potlucks, guitarties, photoadventures, me speaking, etc, let me know and we can prossibly work something out!

Ciao for now,
